GREETINGS

Well some time has passed since my last post.  Mother’s Day has come and gone.  Hope y’all had a great Mother’s Day.  I hardly believe it has been three years since Mama moved to Heaven and nearly 4 years since the mother of my son also relocated to Heaven and almost 11 years since my sister Sandy did. In some ways it seems long and in some ways it seems like just a short while ago.  The main thing is all three were born again and ready to go when they drew their last breaths here.  :-)

VICTORIA

My little munchkin (grand daughter) has learned to drink from a straw.  She actually got that mastered before the sippy cup.  LOL  In fact she went from the bottle to the straw and skipped the sippy.  She has also weaned herself.  She started weaning herself when she discovered drinking from a straw and as of a week ago she has been bottle free.  Pretty good for 10 months old!

I secretly gave her some Coca Cola today (don’t tell her parents lol).  It was watered down a good bit.  She liked it and so I gave her a sip of some non watered down coke.  Boy you should have seen her face!  She wasn’t so fond of that.  The fizz was a bit much.  She didn’t cry but she sure made a face and shook her head. LOL

Last time I posted I told you  how much she likes to watch people sing on TV.  Well, a couple of days ago I was holding her and I had the TV on as a guy was singing.  She turned toward the TV and started singing along!  Of course she had no words and had her own tune but she was very clearly singing along.  When he stopped, she stopped.   Sooooo sweet.  :-)

TODAY

Monday was  one of those days.  Know what I mean?  I was glad to see it go.  Tuesday was better.  Thank God.

Dontcha enjoy the warmer weather?  Next to Fall, Spring is one of my favorite seasons.  I greatly enjoy walking and looking at the trees and the birds and taking in those wonderful spring smells.  I never get tired of looking at nature.

I was reading some comments on a website recently about the North GA mountains and someone who lives there posted that the mountains are not so great if you live in them and they weren’t so great to look at if you saw them everyday.  I couldn’t disagree more!  While I don’t live in the mountains, I have been living in the same area for over thirty years and I go outside everyday and look at the trees and admire them.  I never get tired of looking at them even though I see them constantly.  It’s all a matter of attitude and perspective.  Being positive or negative.  Which brings us to today’s Bible study which is  little bit long but s good reminder to stay positive but first…

THE  BREAD OF LIFE

 Staying Positive

1.  And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of the people was grieved… but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. (1 Samuel 30:6)

Staying positive in a negative world is not something that is always easy to do.  But it is so vitally necessary and an integral part of receiving from God.  Our God  is a positive God and if we are to receive the things we want and need from this positive God we are going to have to train ourselves to be positive.

In our first verse (listed abouve) we find where King David was in an impossible situation.  His and his men’s wives, children and belongings had been all taken captive by their enemies.  They had all wept until their was no more strength to weep.  The men decided to stone David to death but “David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”  David turned to God.  After all the crying was over he chose not to stay in that weeping state but he chose to turn to God and encourage himself in the Lord.  This brought instruction from the Lord and the strength to follow those instructions.  If you keep on reading you will discover where God granted them a great victory.  Not only was all that they had lost recovered, but they wound up with all the enemies goods as well!

2.  Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:    (Hebrews 12:12-14)

In the second verses we are told  to lift up our hands which hang down and the feeble knees.  This is instruction on how to come out from under discouragement and difficulty and how to encourage ourselves in the Lord.  It starts by having us looking up and lifting up those holy hands.  God’s not down He’s up!  Look up to Him!  Lift up those hands and begin to praise Him.  Start focusing on your deliverance from the situation instead of how bad things are and how wrong things are.  When you do this you will find healing for your situation.  Notice that healing is mentioned after the lifting up of those hands and knees.

Then follow after peace.  Chase after it.  Don’t call people up and give them a piece of your mind.  Follow after peace! Chase after peace!  Some people have been giving out so many pieces of their mind until they really have very little mind left.  Follow after peace.  Stay away from strife because strife KILLS.

3.  Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. (Psalm 31:24)

In the third verse those who hope in the Lord are instructed to be of good courage and when we do so, God will strengthen our hearts.  Not only are we to encourage ourselves and lift up those holy hands, we follow peace and we take courage and then we hope in the Lord.  Now, Bible hope is not that old “I’m just a hopin’ and a prayin’, that’s not gonna get the job done.  That’s like asking someone if God’s gonna heal them and they say, “Well I sure hope so.”  You can tell right there they aren’t really believing, they’re wishing.  They may as well have said “I wish he would”.  You now how powerful the word wish is,  there’s no power in it at all.  True Bible hope is different from that.

4.  Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, [who is] the health of my countenance, and my God. (Psalm 42:11)

5.  But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. (Psalm 71:14)

In the fourth and fifth verses  the writer is talking to his own soul (that happens a lot in Scripture and we ought to do the same) and is reprimanding his soul for being discouraged.  Then he tells his soul to hope in the Lord!  Next he tells himself that he will praise God. Notice when he does this, healing and health are mentioned.  Healing follows praise!  In other words he is telling his soul, “get your eyes off the problem and praise God who brings health.”  Do you see it?  Are you beginning to see the connection?  As long as you focus on the problem, and talk the problem, and cry about the problem or even pray the problem all you have is the problem!  Set your sites on things above.  Focus your attention on the Deliverer and the deliverance.  Praise God for His benefits and blessings!  Turn your thoughts from the negative to the positive.  God is a positive God and if you are ever going to get anything from Him you must focus on the positive and hope continually.

6.  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  (Hebrews 11:1)

Now we’re getting to the New Testament meat of todays study.  Bible hope and Bible faith.  As I stated earlier Bible hope is not wishing.  If you are just wishing things would change you are wasting your time.  If you are wishing you were healed you are wasting your time.  The same goes for “hopin and prayin”.  I know this may come as a surprise to you when I say it but if you are hoping and praying you may as well be twiddling your thumbs and reciting Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.  It would do you just as much good.

Bible hope is not wishing.  The hope the Word refers to is  “earnest expectation”.  It’s like stretching your neck  searching and reaching out, watching for and looking for something.  Have you ever been eagerly looking for a package to come in the mail?  Remember how you kept a close eye out for the mailman or the UPS truck.  You would go to the window or the door a dozen times to check to see if it had arrived yet.  You had a hard time focusing on what you were doing because you were watching for that package.  That’s Bible hope!  That earnest expectation of the arrival of the thing you are needing or wanting.  See how different that is from just wishing?

Now hope by itself has no substance.  Hope is vitally important.  It’s the expectancy.  The sincere looking for.  The stretching out of the neck, the watching for.  But by itself it is empty but when you couple it with faith in God and in His Word then it suddenly takes on substance.

Substance is something you can see, feel, touch, taste, hear and or smell.  If you build up your hope and couple it with faith you’ve got it then!  Faith will take the thing you are earnestly expecting (hoping for) and give it substance and bring it into the natural world you are living in.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing, by the Word of God.  If you are wanting, needing or believing for something you must be standing on the verses that promise you the thing you are wanting, needing or believing for.  Without the Word there is NO faith.  It may look like faith. it may even sound like faith but apart from the Word there is no faith.

You can make the right confession but if you are not in the word and purposely standing on the specific Scriptures for your situation you are not in faith.  If your idea of reading the Word is slipping in a verse from the promise box everyday and that’s all, you are not in faith because you are not in the Word.  If you are too busy for the Word of God but you spend your day reading novels or magazines or surfing the web or watcching TV you are not in faith and you will fail in your attempt to get your prayer answered.

You must have the Word to take a positive stand.  You must turn your eyes and your mouth away from the problem.  You must lift up those hands and begin to praise Him for your deliverance.  Focus on the ANSWER not on the problem.  BE POSITIVE!  If you must whine go ahead and do it and get it over with, and then get up, follow the Scriptural examples, and turn the thing around!

I know this may seem a little blunt but the old ways will not carry you through these last days.  That old hoping and praying won’t work.  That old “well God might be trying to teach me something in this” WON”T WORK!  It never has worked.  I used to believe that way because it was what I was taught but when I got into the Word, I found out God wasn’t trying to teach me something but the devil was trying to steal from me, kill me, and destroy me. (John 10:10)

When I finally found out the Truth I quit laying down in the highway of life and letting the devil run over me.  You can do the same. Be positive, Get into the Word, lift up those holy hands, Praise God!  You will find your deliverance!

When they tell you, “Now don’t get your hopes up.”  You just lift those holy hands and say “Glory to God my hope is taller than a Georgia pine

CONFESSION OF FAITH

I lift up my hands to the Lord.  I look unto God my help and strength.  I have been delivered from sin, sickness, poverty, lack, oppression and strife.  I receive my deliverance now in Jesus’ name.  I have it now in Jesus’ name!  Now, satan, get out of my house, my body, my family and my life in Jesus’ name! (The Bible calls satan a spiritual dog, so tell that dog to git! Then keep him out.)

TICKLING THE FUNNY BONE

The Talking Dog

A teenaged boy went off to college, but about a third of the way through the semester, he had  squandered the money his parents had given him. Desperate to get more money out of his father, he came up with a cunning plan.

Phoning home one weekend, he said: “Dad, you won’t believe the educational opportunities that are available at this university! Why, they’ve even got a course here that will teach our dog how to talk!”

“That’s incredible!” said the gullible father. “How do I enroll him in the course?”

“Just send him down here with $1,000, and I’ll make sure he gets in the course.”

So the father sent the dog and $1,000, but about two-thirds of the way through the semester, that money had also run out. The boy called his father again.

“How’s Fido doing?” asked the father.

“Awesome, Dad, he’s talking brilliantly. But you just won’t believe this, they’ve had such a great results with the talking dogs course that they’re starting up a new one to teach them how to read!”

“Read?” echoed his father. “No kidding! What do I have to do to get him in that course?”

“Just send $2,500. I’ll get him in.”

His father duly sent the money, but at the end of the semester, the boy was faced with a problem: how to conceal from his father the fact that the dog could neither talk nor read. So the boy decided to take drastic action and shot the dog. When he arrived home, his father was waiting expectantly.

“Where’s Fido?” asked the father. “I just can’t wait to hear him talk and listen to him reading something.”

“Dad,” said the boy solemnly, “I’ve got some bad news. This morning, when I got out of the shower, Fido was in the living room reading the morning paper, like he usually does. Then suddenly he turned to me and asked: “So, is your Dad still messing around with that little blonde?”

The father’s face turned red with rage and he shouted: “I hope you shot that lying dog!”

“I sure did, Dad.”

“That’s my boy!”

Out of Bounds

On the first day of college, the dean addressed the students.

“The female dormitory,” he stated, “will be out-of-bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to all female students. Anybody caught breaking this rule will have to pay $20 the first time, $60 the second time and $150 the third time. Any questions?”

One male student asked: “How much for a season ticket?”

Good Afternoon!

Has it been THAT long?

Wow, I can hardly believe it has been four months since I last posted on this blog!  Well we’ve got some catching up to do. So, here we go…

Victoria

My little grand-daughter is now ten months old.  She is a pretty little thing.  She says the usual words Da Da, Ma Ma, Ba Ba and of course Pa Pa (That’s ME!) LOL

She has been crawling for a while now and pulling herself up.  She walks along the sofa or in her crib.  She can stand alone but she has not taken her first unassisted step as yet.

She is really into Spongebob and Sesame Street.

She loves to watch people sing in TV.  When someone is singing she will stop what she is doing and just watch.  She has sat for 30 minutes or longer watching singing.  Amazing for her age.

TODAY

God has promised to never leave us or forsake us and if we put our faith, hope and trust in Him, He will see us and our families through! Things can be bad for others but we can be just as safe and blessed as can be. Psalm 91 tells us so.   So look up!!!!  Stand on His Word and everything will be alright for you.

ebay

I recently found a couple of cassette sermons on ebay by my favorite minister Dr. T.L. Lowery.  One of them is simply excellent!  Now THAT man can preach!  I’ve never heard anyone who could do it better.

YOUTUBE

I have a new video on YouTube.  It’s title is, A Walk in the South GA Woods.  It is of our walk through the parcourse at our local college.  It has Philip, Connie and Victoria along with the scenery of this neat nature trail.  I used the song Pray Anyway as the background music.  I decided not to post it here but you can view it by going to YouTube and typing Jonathan Hyers in the search and it should bring up my channel.  You may also type  Jonathan Hyers Videos on Bing and that will bring my YouTube channel.  My channel will have my picture.  If you have any trouble let me know and I will post the video here.

Also be sure to subscribe to my channel!  You will get an email letting you know when I upload new videos.  I currently have no subscribers and would appreciate YOU being one.  Thanks.

DOWNTON ABBEY

Exactly what my fascination with British period pieces is, I do not know. But I greatly enjoy them.

The things that bug me about British Tv is how short their seasons are.  Here in the USA our seasons run from 24 to 30 episodes.  Downton is 7! Seven!  Three of those were 2-hour episodes which technically would make it 10 but still…   Not only are they so short but the next season takes a full year to air.  Wow.  So Downton won’t air here until January 2014.  I did not like the way last season ended but TV, as in life, doesn’t always go the way we want it to go.  Which brings me to the quote of the day…

THOUGHT’S WORTH PONDERING

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”

—John Lennon

THE  BREAD OF LIFE

And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.1 John 4:21 (KJV)

Love.  It is the commandment we are to live by as New Testament believers.  If we live by the commandment of Love we will fulfill all the Old Testament commandments completely.

It’s a cinch that if you love me you won’t kill me.  Neither will you steal from me or sleep with my wife or tell lies on me.  You won’t gossip about me or mistreat me purposely.

If you love God you won’t take his name in vain or have any other gods before Him.  You will also treat His kids well. If you love, you will demonstrate God to the world for God is love.  God’s love was placed in your heart the moment you were born again.   Now what you did with it was up to you.  You could let it lie dormant and unproductive.  You could have allowed the “weeds” of life and the “roots” of bitterness to choke it and prevent it from growing or you could have nurtured it and watered it and allowed it to grow and mature into a full-grown mature love.

How is that done?  Three ways.  First by the Word of God and second by your personal prayer life and third by your actions.  Your first line of defense against the attacks of the devil is NOT to pray or to get everyone else to pray either.  You FIRST step toward a true relationship with God and a proper relationship with your fellow-man is the WORD.  Without spending good quality time in the Word of God you will never grow.  You should  be in the Word and by that I mean a daily time of feeding on God’s Word and primarily in the New Testament since we are the New Testament church.

Next you must develop a personal daily prayer time! If you are too busy to pray you are a disaster going somewhere to happen and there’s no way around it.  Aside from that, how would you feel if your children claimed to love you but never wanted to spend time with you and when they did talk to you all they did was ask you for money? Hmmmm.  If you want more of God in your life you must spend time with Him.

Third you must PRACTICE the Word and your love walk.  This is the hard part.  It takes diligent effort on your part to learn to crucify your flesh and purposely develop the God-kind of love.  It takes an effort to REFUSE to be offended at others.  It takes an effort to forgive others.  It takes an effort to treat others the way you wish they treated you instead of the way they really treat you.  God never promised it would be easy but He does give us grace and strength to do it and over time as you grow in the love walk, less and less things will “get” you.  Glory to God!

TODAY’S CONFESSION OF FAITH

I refuse to walk as a mere man (woman).  I am changed.  I am a new creature in Christ.  I set myself to grow up spiritually.  I walk as a spiritual man (woman) and I put away childish things. I can do it all through Christ who gives me strength.

Wisdom

Learn to look for wisdom even from those you feel are inferior.

There once was a group of men standing in the lobby of a large upscale hotel.  They were discussing putting in an elevator.  One was an engineer,  one the owner of the hotel, one the manager of the hotel.  All were well-educated, intelligent and articulate.  The engineer was  going over the plans and cost projections of this labor intensive task.  They were going to have to tear out holes in all the floors and lose some of the rooms etc..

Now, cleaning the floor near where the men were standing was the janitor who couldn’t help but overhear.  After much discussion there was a pause and the janitor spoke up and said, “I’ll tell you what I would do” he said.  The men turned and looked disdainfully at the janitor who had dared interrupt their meeting.  One of the men snidely remarked, “Just what would you do?”  The janitor, undaunted by this obvious put-down simply said, “I’d put it on the outside of the building.”  In stunned silence the men simply stood still.  Needless to say the elevator went on the outside of the building.

Emma is Dead

Emma Sue Smith passed away and Billy Bob Jones called 911.

The 911 operator told Billy Bob that she would send someone out right away.

“Where are you?” asked the operator.

Billy Bob replied, “At the end of Eucalyptus Drive.”

The operator asked, “Can you spell that for me?”

There was a long pause and finally Billy Bob said, “How ’bout if I drag her over to Oak Street and you  can pick her up there?”

It’s a Southern Thang

At a Southern university, students in the psychology program were attending their first class on emotional extremes.

“Just to establish some parameters,” said the professor to the student from Arkansas, “what is the opposite of joy?”             “Sadness,” said the student.

“And the opposite of depression?” he asked of the young lady from Oklahoma.    ”Elation,” she said.

“And you sir,” he said to the young man from Texas, “what about the opposite of woe?”

The Texan replied, “That would be giddy up!’”

Good Morning!

Sunday Night

Sunday night  a week ago I visited one of our local churches.  It would be rude to say the name Cornerstone Church of God so I won’t say it. LOL  It was wonderful.  (I used to attend church there) They have a new pastor and he has worked wonders in that place.  The music was terrific and that’s a rare thing nowadays.  They took the old hymn Just a Little Talk With Jesus and did it in a blues style and it was fabulous.  The entire musical part of the service was great.  Now I’m not saying this church used to be stuffy (wink) and a bit snobby (wink wink) or as dry as last years toast (wink wink wink) but it surely wasn’t Sunday Night!  They still need some help in the friendly department but wow what a change. :-)

TODAY

I awakened from a dream.   In my dream we were preparing Thanksgiving Dinner.  My late mother was there, my living sisters were there and some people I do not know.  I turned around and  my late sister Sandy walks in.  We were all sooo glad to see her.  She was at least 150 pounds thinner and looked much much younger. I hugged her first and then each  of the other family members hugged her with Gail being last and gave her an extra long hug.  In a  minute Sandy said she needed to go.  I asked her to see the baby before she left and we went into the bedroom and I showed her the baby.  She then told me she had something to tell me.  I followed her into this old-fashioned unpainted room like you might find in an old abandoned house.  Sandy used to love those types of houses.   She turned to me and started singing.  Now Sandy, bless her heart could not sing in this life but in my dream she had a beautiful voice and sang a chorus to me.  The  song she sang is very old school.  The type you might have heard children singing in church forty or fifty years ago.  She sang it through and was gone.  I turned to look behind me and an evil spirit was there looking furiously at me.  I spoke to him and said, “whether you like it or not that’s exactly what I’m going to do” (what the song said).  I then woke up.  I got out of bed and quickly wrote the words to the song down and went to the piano to mark a lead sheet for the tune.  I have been singing it all morning.  The tag line is “Take the torch of the Lord and lift it high.”  And by the help and grace of God I will do just that!

A NEW YEAR

a New Year is here just incase ya didn’t know. ;-)   I am hoping we have a good year.

God has promised to never leave us or forsake us and if we put our faith, hope and trust in Him, He will see us and our families through! Things can be bad for others but we can be just as safe and blessed as can be. Psalm 91 tells us so.   So look up!!!!  Stand on His Word and everything will be alright for you.

ebay

I am making a return to selling on ebay.  Please feel free to check out my listings  I’m getting rid of a lot of my DVD’s and such.  My username is 301churchstreet  just incase you want to check it out. Not much on there today but I will be adding more this week , Lord willing.

YOUTUBE

I am gettin’ brave folks… I have decided to put some videos of myself on YouTube.  That is if they turn out right.  I think I’ll sing and maybe do some teaching and might even do a little preaching.  We’ll just have to see how it goes.   I’ve never been one for such things but it’s time (or past it) to make some changes. ;-)

I plan to start with some covers of other people’s songs and maybe go from there.

I’ll let ya know when I do.  I’ll probably post them here too.

DOWNTON ABBEY

Exactly what my fascination with British period pieces is, I do not know. But I greatly enjoy them.  Last night was the start of season three of Downton Abbey on PBS.  Of course, it was excellent. I eagerly await next weeks episode.

Matthew certainly needs to get off his stubborn pride and keep the money and help the family with it.

THE  BREAD OF LIFE

Fight the good fight of faith… 1 Timothy 6:12 KJV

So many today are fighting the wrong things and the wrong ways.  We are not told to fight sin, fight the neighbor, fight the family, or even to fight the devil.  You are not in a fight with the devil if you are scripturally accurate.  You are to fight the good fight of FAITH.  That fight is to stand and having done all to stand, stand. (Ephesians 6:13 & 14) It takes faith to stand when it seems everything around you is falling apart.

How do you do it?  By the Word of God.  Your first line of defense against the attacks of the devil is NOT to pray! or to get everyone else to pray either.  You FIRST line of defense is the WORD.  Before the attack comes you should already be in the Word and by that I mean a daily time of feeding on God’s Word.  Then when the attack comes (and they always do) go to the specific Scriptures that deal with your specific attack and read them OUT LOUD.  Declare God’s Word and take your stand.  Satan has no defense against the Word of God.  the Word is supposed to be a sword.  But if you don’t pick it up and acutally use it like a sword it isn’t one for you is it?  Pick it up and use it.  This is fighting the “good fight” of faith.  It’s called a good fight because if you fight it properly YOU WIN! Glory to God!

TODAY’S CONFESSION OF FAITH

I fight the good fight of faith.  I stand on God’s Word.  I am stronger this year than last year and I am a winner.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE OF LIFE

The Sears Tower

The humorist offered his latest invention in the way of a puzzle to the assembly of guests in the drawing-room:

“Can you name an animal that has eyes and cannot see; legs and cannot walk, but can jump as high as the Sears Tower?”

Everybody racked his brains during a period of deep silence, and racked in vain. Finally, they gave it up and demanded the solution. The inventor of the puzzle beamed.

“The answer,” he said, “is a wooden horse. It has eyes and cannot see, and legs and cannot walk.”

“Yes,” the company agreed. “But how does it jump as high as the Sears Tower?”

“The Sears Tower,” the humorist explained, “can not jump.”

The Venetian Blind

While building a house, Senator Platt of Connecticut had occasion to employ a carpenter. One of the applicants was a plain Connecticut Yankee, without any frills.

“You thoroughly understand carpentry?” asked the senator.

“Yes, sir.”

“You can make doors, windows, and blinds?”

“Oh, yes sir!”

“How would you make a Venetian blind?”

The man scratched his head and thought deeply for a few seconds. “I should think, sir,” he said finally, “about the best way would be to poke him in the eyes.”

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,600 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Good evening to YOU!

TODAY

Today is Christmas Day and first of all I wish to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!!!

I also wish to salute all of you and wish y’all a very merry Christmas and a great and prosperous New Year!

Well let’s see, Where have I been you ask?  Absolutely nowhere. LOL  I haven’t been blogging because it became a chore instead of a joy and I started it as a joy. Now I will post as I “take a notion” and that will stop it from being a chore and return it to the joy it once was. :-)

Today I was cooking Christmas dinner.  I started around 9 am or so.  Here’s the menu:

Chuck Roast

Potato Salad

Garden Pea Salad

Rice

Gravy

Candied Sweet Potatoes

Lima beans

Macaroni and Cheese

Sour Cream Muffins

Tea

Desserts:

Peach Cobbler

Chocolate Cream Pie

Rice Krispie Treats

Ice Cream

Most of this is from scratch (all but the ice cream).  Philip is cooking the Lima Beans and the Mac & Cheese.  How many people will be eating this meal?  3… three… yes that’s THREE! LOL needless to say we will be eating it again tomorrow and some will probably go into the freezer for later.  I really believe in the “more than enough” rule or the “better to have too much than not enough” rule.  It’s Christmas so why shouldn’t we should indulge ourselves a bit.

If you’ve never had sour cream muffins, they are wonderful and very simple to make.  Here’s the recipe or as the old southern cooks and cookbooks used to say the “receipt”.  Of course these are for an occasional treat not an everyday eat.

SOUR CREAM MUFFINS

1 cup Self Rising Flour (White Lily is the best)

8 ounces Sour Cream

1 Stick of Land o Lakes MARGARINE (melted)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Grease or spray muffin tin.  In a bowl combine all ingredients and stir with a spoon until blended.  Fill muffin tins 2/3 full and bake for 18-20 minutes. (if using mini muffin tin bake for 10 minutes).  Allow to cool slightly before removing from tin.

Yield:  10 full-sized muffins

RECOMMENDED READINGS:

I have just finished reading a fabulous book called Nicholas and Alexandra an Intimate Account of the Last of the Romanov’s.  It was terrific and I highly recommend it.  It was authored by Robert K Massie and published in 1967.

A THOUGHT WORTH PONDERING

‘Something of God flows into us from the blue of the sky, the taste of honey, the delicious embrace of water whether cold or hot, and even from sleep itself.

Christmas Gifts

Thanks to those who gave me gifts. I appreciate each one. There was some cash which is always good ;-) clothing, Elvis stuff Uh Huh Uh Huh, lots of things. I also bought myself a gift or two. I collect anything by my father-in-the-faith Dr. T. L. Lowery. He was a tent preacher back in the day and I am trying to gather up everything he offered in his meetings. Well, I found (on eBay) a three record set (LP’s) of his messages and a rare songbook he published during those tent days. I was thrilled. When I played the records–no skips and not many scratches! Thank you Jesus!

All in all we had a great day! Hope yours went well too. I’ll be posting again soon.

Good Evening to YOU!

TODAY

Today is Veterans Day and I salute all who have served and those who have given their all for our freedom.  Thank YOU!

Secession again?

I read earlier today of a growing secessionist movement in various states with Vermont and Alaska having the largest membership.  I saw on the news where Louisiana sent a ten thousand signature petition to the President urging him to allow that state to peacefully secede.  Other states also have similar growing movements.  Amazing isn’t it?

Back in 2007 a fellow told me of a church service he was in back in the 1970″s  in California where a prophecy came forth stating that the President to be elected in 2008 would inact legislation in 2010 that would inadvertently lead to the break up of the nation in 2013.

Now I found this interesting but don’t know if this prophecy was from God or not.  I tend to think not, but time will tell as we are about to enter 2013.

THE DAILY BREAD

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.  (2 Corinthians 4:16 KJV)

Whether we like it or not our bodies (the outward man) are decaying.  It is growing older each and every day.  This we cannot stop and at best all we can do is slow the process down.  One day these bodies that we pet and pamper so much will go back to the dust of the earth.

But I have some good news for you if you are a Christian.  The good news is that the real you, the inward man, is not growing a bit older.  The inward man is not perishing or decaying.  It is actually renewing each day.  When the time comes and you are released from your earthy tabernacle (your body) you will not be old.  There will be no gray hair, no wrinkles, no glasses, no contact lenses, no false teeth, no hearing aids, no arthritis or feebleness of any kind!  There are no old people in heaven.  they may have been there for thousands of years but they are not old.

All of the feebleness and decay experienced on this earth was brought about by the sin of Adam.  There is no sin in Heaven and no death or decay.  Isn’t that wonderful!  The inward man, the real you, the spirit and soul that is living inside your body is ageless.  It’s renewed day by day and will go on living forever and ever and ever without end.

Only God could create such beings as we are.  No wonder the Scripture declares that we are wonderfully made! (Psalm 139:14)

TODAY’S CONFESSION OF FAITH

I am a spirit being.  The real me is a spirit created by God to live forever and never grow old so I’m not getting old I’m getting renewed day by day! Glory to God!

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

A guy goes to a psychiatrist.

“Doc, I keep having these alternating recurring dreams. First I’m a teepee; then I’m a wigwam; then I’m a teepee; then I’m a wigwam. It’s driving me crazy. What’s wrong with me?”

The doctor replies: “It’ appears that you’re simply two tents.”

Two old ladies were out driving in a big car. Both could barely see over the dashboard. They were cruising along at a steady twenty-six miles an hour when they came to a junction and although the light was red, they went straight through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself: “I must be losing it, I could have sworn we just went through a red light.”

Three hundred yards further down the road, they approached another junction. Again the light was red, but again they went through it. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself: “I must be seeing things because I’m sure we just went through another red light.”

A couple of minutes later they went through a third red light. This time she turned to the other woman and said: “Mildred! Don’t you know we just went through three red lights! You could have killed us!”

“Oh,” said Mildred. “Am I driving?”

Good Morning!

WEDNESDAY

We had a good service Wednesday night.  Love it when the Spirit moves.  :-)

TODAY

I have been giving the lawn its final mowing.  At least it should be the last one.  I’ve put one set of my lawn chairs away for the winter.  I’m keeping the cheap ones out to use for the fall, gotta have something besides the swing to sit in on warmer days. ;-)

BACK TO THE FUTURE?

I’m a sci-fi fan and I was glad to hear that we are going to have new Star Wars movies coming out in a couple of years and a new Star Trek movie will be out next year.  The only thing that would make this better would be a new Star Trek The Next Generation movie.  TNG episodes and movies were and are my favorites. :-)

THANKSGIVING

I am looking forward to Thanksgiving even though it will be just me, Phil, Connie and the baby.  I’ll be cooking and yep I can do that LOL.  I wish I had gotten mama’s dressing recipe written down before she moved to Heaven. (She made some really good dressing.) I remember some of the ingredients but not all.

We have had some really good family gatherings at Thanksgiving and some awful ones as well.  Probably just like your family has.  Some years I was glad we got together and some years not so much. LOL  Now we don’t get together at all.  That’s how it goes when the parents die.

THE DAILY BREAD

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of their testimony…                         (Revelation 12:11 KJV)

Satan, whom the Bible calls the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4), is a defeated foe.  He was defeated at Calvary by the Lord Jesus.  Yet he will still try to exercise authority over you if you allow him to.   He will try to dominate you and keep you from walking in the victory that was purchased for you.  But you have powerful weapons at your disposal to put him back in his place and two of those are listed in the above Scripture.  They are the Blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony.

As with all of our spiritual weapons they must be used.  If a burglar breaks into your house, simply having a gun or other weapon is not enough it must be used to do you any good.  It is the same with spiritual weapons, they must be used to be effective.  The Blood of Jesus has paid for your deliverance and by virtue of the New Birth you have a right to use the Blood.

I plead the Blood over myself and my son, daughter-in-law, and grand-daughter daily.  I declare the protection of the Blood over each of us and our belongings and the vehicles we own or ride in. I appropriate the power of The Blood and fully expect God’s protection.  I also testify of the protection and power of the Blood of the Lamb.  I tell others about it and how I’ve been miraculously protected in the past by the Blood of the Lamb.  I add this testimony to my declaration of and faith in the Blood.  Notice in today’s Scripture, it’s not just the Blood but also our testimony that makes us overcomers.  It’s not automatic.  Nothing in the Kingdom is automatic.  All of it must be appropriated and all must be by faith.

Many are defeated unnecessarily because they are assuming the things of God are automatic when they in fact are not.  Think about it like this; you were not born again automatically.  You had to do your part in praying and confessing the Lordship of Jesus and receiving Him into your heart.  If salvation is not automatic what would make us think healing, protection, deliverance or anything else is automatic?

So, dear hearts, we must do our part.  You’re an overcomer by the New Birth but you will not overcome without the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony.  Start right now and declare that Blood hedge of protection and then confess and testify of your deliverance!

TODAY’S CONFESSION OF FAITH

I am an overcomer.  I overcome the devil and he never overcomes me.  I overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and my confession or word of my testimony.  I am a winner.  I am victorious in life in Jesus’ name!

Dr. Leroy, the head psychiatrist at the local mental hospital, is examining patients to see if they’re cured and ready to re-enter society.

“So, Mr. Clark,” the doctor says to one of his patients, “I see by your chart that you’ve been recommended for dismissal. Do you have any idea what you might do once you’re released?”

The patient thinks for a moment, then replies, “Well, I went to school for mechanical engineering. That’s still a good field, good money there. But on the other hand, I thought I might write a book about my experience here in the hospital, what it’s like to be a patient here. People might be interested in reading a book like that. In addition, I thought I might go back to college and study art history, which I’ve grown interested in lately.”

Dr. Leroy nods and says, “Yes, those all sound like intriguing possibilities.”

The patient replies, “And the best part is, in my spare time, I can go on being a teapot.”

The Election is Over…Now What?

Wednesday,  November 7, 2012

Good Morning!

WEATHER

The weather is much cooler here in South Georgia.  I like it.  I don’t like it when it’s too cold but chilly is a good thing.  “-)

THE ELECTION

WOW!  My record is broken.  I was hoping Romney would win. But he didn’t.  Will my prophetic little story of the Land of Plenty come to pass?  Only the Lord knows for sure.  :-(

The Lord is the one who sets up kings (presidents) and takes them down.

Daniel 2:21 And he changeth the times  and the  seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up  kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding.

Now we must all remember that things must align for end-time Scriptures to be fulfilled.  Time is short.  Jesus is coming soon and so is the Antichrist.  Back in 2008 many were asking if Obama was the antichrist and the answer is no he is not.  I will tell you now what I told them then; I believe he is a forerunner to the antichrist.

He is for big government controlling everything and the antichrist will try to rule the world.  He is for abortion and gay rights. The antichrist will certainly have people killed by the thousands if not millions.  We (the USA) have killed 55 million babies through abortion since it was legalized in the early seventies.  As for gay rights, that will now become the law of the land.  I am not against gay people in fact i love gay people, but I am against homosexuality as it is clearly against Scripture.

Now the biggest problem facing this nation is not the ruination of our healthcare system, although this is a certainty now.  It is not the tremendous debt, although this will ruin us financially and is also now a certainty.  It is not the legalization of same-sex marriages, although this too is a certainty.  It is not the oppression of the church, although this is coming in a greater and greater degree.  All of these and others, while terrible and disastrous, will pale in comparison to what will happen if we turn our back on Israel.  This is the greatest threat to our security and sovereignty.  If we mistreat Israel our nation’s hedge of protection will fall.  It’s as simple as that.

I believe the Lord has shown me that we are heading for some very difficult times in the coming years.  This nation will face great natural disasters as we have never known and these will be far worse than Sandy or Katrina.  While it is true we are already having them now but they will increase.  2013 may see a great disaster hit us if things are not changed through prayer and I’m not even sure they can be changed.  Again, the end-times must come to pass.  The thing to do now is to draw closer to God.  The times of playing around and living as we always have are over.  It is time to awaken and lay aside the things that are not pleasing to God.

THE GOOD NEWS:

The good news is this; there is coming another Great Awakening.  This will be the final great move of God before the Lord’s return.  It will be a time of great outpouring of the manifested presence of God.  Great miracles and great signs will be taking place as we have never witnessed.  This outpouring will cause awe and wonder.  People will be saying “Bible day’s are here again!”  It will not, and I mean NOT change Scripture but it will be a tremendous time of revival.  So LOOK UP!  Get your prayer life in order and prepare yourself for this tremendous outpouring.

THANKSGIVING

Is just around the corner.  A time of giving thanks for the blessings God has given us.  Be thankful.

CHRISTMAS

My favorite holiday.  I already have my tree up :-D

I have always greatly enjoyed Christmas.  The lights, the trees, giving gifts, all of the fabulous once-a-year foods.  The weather is nice and not hot.  Although sometimes, here in the South it is very warm on Christmas, but usually it is cold.  Not the brutal cold that others have but cold for here.  I like to put on Christmas music and turn off all the lights except for the tree and my Christmas Village and sit quietly looking at the tree and thinking about the Lord and His blessings as well as Christmases of the past.  I’m a sucker for bright lights and glitter.   ;-)

I’ll probably share a photo or two of my tree in a day or two.

VICTORIA

My little munchkin is such a sweet little thing.  She just smiles all the time now and tries and tries to talk.  Such a joy to have here in my life.  I’ll try to get some photos posted soon.  You know how people are about those grandchildren! :-D

PHIL AND CONNIE

Are doing well.  I thank God for giving me my wonderful son and for sending hims a terrific wife and for giving them our little Victoria. :-)

THE DAILY BREAD

I will let the comments about the election be the Daily Bread portion of today’s blog but I will give the Scripture here:

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes:  Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. (Proverbs 3:5-8)

TODAY’S CONFESSION OF FAITH

I trust the Lord with all of my heart and I do not lean on my own understanding.  I acknowledge Him in all my ways and He directs my path.

The Stalled Car

A woman was out driving when she stalled at a red light.  Hard as she tried, she was unable to restart the engine and soon a long line began to form.  The male driver immediately behind her was particularly impatient, honking his horn continuously.  Finally she got out, went up to the driver behind and said:

“I can’t seem to get my car started. Would you be a sweetheart and see if you can get it started for me? I’ll stay here in your car and blow your horn for you!”

A Faulty Carburetor

A man was driving down a country lane when his car ground to a halt.

As he lifted the hood to study the engine, a brown and white cow from an adjoining field lumbered over to the car and stuck her head under the hood next to the man’s.

After a moment or two, the cow turned to the man and said: “Looks like a faulty carburetor to me.” Then she walked back into the field and resumed her grazing.

Amazed, the man walked up to the farmhouse and asked the farmer: “Is that your cow in the field?”

“The brown and white one? Yes, that’s old Buttercup.”

“Well,” continued the man, “my car was broken down, and she just said: ‘Looks like a faulty carburetor to me.’”

The farmer shook his head and said: “Don’t mind old Buttercup. She don’t know a thing about cars.”

WORDS WORTH PONDERING

Flattery is more dangerous than hatred.

Balastar Gracian

THE DAILY BREAD

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (Romans 4:20 & 21 KJV)

Abraham was strong in faith. He was fully persuaded.  Not just persuaded but fully persuaded that what God promised He was able to perform.  Now the amazing thing is, he had nothing to go on but the words spoken to him by God.  He had nothing else with which to base his faith.  This is what true faith is.   True faith doesn’t require prior evidence.  True faith doesn’t require a sign.  True faith doesn’t have to have goose bumps, chill bumps or any other physical manifestation.  True faith doesn’t require sight.  True faith requires nothing but the Word.  This is the difference between Abraham and Thomas. Thomas had to see before he would believe.

After the crucifixion, Jesus appeared to his disciples and to others.  They told Thomas of His resurrection and appearing. Now keep in mind that Thomas had heard Jesus say repeatedly how He (Jesus) would be killed and would rise from the dead on the third day.  Yet when they told Thomas that Jesus had risen from the dead he said, “Unless I see the print of the nails in his hands and thrust my hand into His side I WILL NOT BELIEVE.” (John 20:25)  Thomas had to see before he believed.  Thomas had to feel before he believed.  He would not, by choice, believe the Word of the Lord and neither would he believe the testimony of his fellow disciples or the others who testified of the resurrection of the Lord.  He had to have some kind of physical evidence first.  Jesus later appeared to Thomas and called him “faithless” (John 20:27).

Now compare the two, Abraham believed the Word without any manifestations or signs, just simply the Word of God.  Thomas would not believe the Word he had to have physical evidence first.  God was pleased with Abraham and listed him in the Hall of Faith found in Hebrews Chapter 11.  Thomas is not listed there because he was faithless, having to have proof first.

Too many of God’s people have Thomas’ faith and not Abrahams.  Yet the Thomas type of faith gets you nowhere but the Abraham type of faith produces results.  Stop being a Thomas and become an Abraham.  Believe God’s Word no matter how things appear. Stand on God’s Word no matter how things appear.  Be a believing believer.   Nothing is impossible to the believer (Matthew 17:20, Mark 9:23).  Nothing is impossible to the one with faith.  If you’re a believer with the Abraham type of faith,  this means YOU!

TODAY’S CONFESSION OF FAITH

I am fully persuaded that what God promised He is able to perform.  I am a believer and I give glory to God.  I believe God’s promises, I believe His Word.

Gold in Heaven

There was a very wealthy woman who had invested in gold all of her life.  Each night she prayed and asked God to allow her to take her gold with her when she died.  Finally, on her deathbed, God told her she could bring one suitcase of gold with her.  She died and to her surprise she arrived at the pearly gates carrying her suitcase.  She met Saint Peter at the gate.

“What do you have in the suitcase?” he asked

“Oh the most precious thing in the world.” she replied

“You cannot come in until I see what it is you have in the suitcase.” said St Peter

The woman reluctantly opened the case, St Peter took a look inside and said, “Oh, just pavement, go on in.”

Don’t Go Backwards

Two guys were driving down the road on a motorcycle.

The driver was wearing a leather jacket that didn’t have zipper and finally he stopped the bike to tell his passenger:

“I can’t drive anymore with the wind hitting me in my chest.” So he decided to put the jacket on backwards to block the air from hitting him.   They set off again but a mile down the road they took a corner too fast and smashed into a tree.

A farmer that lived nearby was first on the scene.

Shortly afterwards a police car pulled up. Surveying the wreckage, the officer asked the farmer: “Are either of them showing any signs of life?”

The farmer said: “Well, that first one was until I turned his head around the right way.”

Good Morning!

NEW FOLLOWERS

I greatly appreciate those who read my blog and those who are following my blog and to both I want to give a great big THANK YOU!

TODAY

Today I am adding a new segment to this blog and it is a daily confession of faith.  I strongly believe in watching my words.  I have learned from Scripture and experience, the importance of my words and I feel it will be helpful to you if I give you a good positive confession to speak each day.  Whether you take advantage of it or not is up to you but I am offering it to you and I know it will be beneficial. ;-)

BALMORA

As you know I am among the host of bloggers on this site who are writing a book.  I have been working on it feverishly of late.  I set up a private blog to hold my work since this format works better than the software I was using on my laptop.  This is  far easier to edit and proofread.  I set up the private blog and also listed the posts as private.  The fact that I did this, went out to the blogosphere but the access to the posts is restricted.  This means, as I understand it, that a notice of the post is listed publicly but access to read the posts is blocked.  Weird.  This weird publishing of such notices is confusing.  It makes it falsely appear to the poster, namely me, that the privacy settings are not functioning when in fact they are.  Then it causes the reader to think they are going to be able to read the posts when in fact they cannot.  Why not just keep all of it private?  Just sayin’, WordPress.

Anyway the book is coming along nicely.  I meant to do my regular blog posts last week but I just couldn’t make myself stop with the book long enough to write on this regular blog.  I know y’all understand. ;-)

THE ELECTION

The time to vote is quickly drawing near.  We all have opinions and our choice of candidate.  I as a voter and citizen of the USA have made my choice.  As a minister I am somewhat limited in how I can present my choice to the public so as the politicians so often say, let me make this perfectly clear, I strongly support Governor Mitt Romney.  You may vote as you feel necessary as will I vote as I feel necessary.  I see this nation currently on a snowballing course toward disaster and without a course change we will find ourselves in dire straits.  This is why I am voting for a change of direction.

THOUGHT’S WORTH PONDERING

Always do what is right it will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

THE DAILY BREAD

For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.  Philippians 1:21 (KJV)

You are more than just a body.  You are actually a triune being.  You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.  (1 Thessalonians 5:23) The real you is not your body but you are living in your body and when your body dies you keep right on living–somewhere.  The apostle Paul is the one who said, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” What he meant by this was if he continued to live on the earth it would benefit the people he was ministering to.  He would be able to help them grow and develop into maturity in the body of Christ.  Yet if he went to be with the Lord in Heaven he personally, would be far better off.  To be in heaven is far better than being here.  Therefore, to die is gain not loss.

I never feel sorry for those who have gone to heaven.  They are better off than I am.  They are in a place where there is no sorrow, no dying, no lying, no cheating, no sickness, no misery, no backbiting, no misunderstanding, no one is touchy, fretful, fearful, or in pain.  No one is spreading lies about them there.  No one is out to “get” them or ruin their reputations or ruin them financially. There are no taxes to be paid or no mortgages, foreclosures or repossession.  There is nothing that will hurt or harm in any way, form or fashion.  In heaven there is peace and joy and happiness with every need met and nothing is left out.  Therefore, to die is to gain and not lose.  You have not lost your loved ones who have gone to heaven.  They are not in your past–they are in your future!

Many people have some false ideas about heaven.  Folks who are there are not sitting around on clouds playing harps.  They are living rich full lives.  There is more activity in heaven than on the earth.  There is no better life than the one in heaven. We need to live out our lives here first.  We need to be working for the Kingdom of God here and now and accomplish what God wants us to accomplish for Him on the earth.  Then when we do leave here we can hear him say “Well done!”  (Matthew 25:21 &23)

Now for the folks who do not make it to heaven it is a far far far different story.  There is darkness, pain, misery, torture, torment, fear, a longing to leave and yet no way out.  Unquenchable fire and unending thirst.  Is hell a real place?  Oh yes, very real.  No one in their right mind would want to go there.  Jesus made it possible to avoid hell by accepting Him as personal Lord and Savior.  Why not do it today?

TODAY’S CONFESSION OF FAITH

I am a spirit.  I have a soul. I live in a body. I am a spirit being created in the image of God.  I believe God with my spirit.  I trust God with my spirit.

Taking flowers to a cemetery, a woman noticed an Old Chinese man placing a bowl of rice on a nearby grave.

Thinking it a strange form of memorial, she said:

“When exactly do you expect your friend to come up and eat the rice?”

The Chinese man smiled:  ”The same time your friend comes up to smell the flowers.”

Do Something Nice for Dad

Unable to attend his father’s funeral, a son who lived far away called his brother and said: “Do something nice for Dad and send me the bill.”

A few weeks later, he received a bill for $200, which he duly paid.

Then the next month he got another bill for $200, which he again paid, thinking it was some unforeseen expense.

But when the bills for $200 keep on arriving each month, he phoned his brother to find out what was going on.

“Well,” said the other brother, “you said to do something nice for Dad. So I rented him a tuxedo.”

The Presidential Debate

Wednesday,  October 17, 2012

Good Morning to All!

TODAY

Today is Wednesday which means it’s service day for most churches so don’t forget to get you mid-week spiritual fill up. ;-)

THE DEBATE

I watched the debate.   It was like watching a verbal boxing match.  My man held his own and I believe eyes are opening across the land. Thank God after a few more days it will be over.  The campaigns will end and the election will have taken place. I will say this, I wish we had debate moderators who were objective and fair but like I told Philip, life is not fair and never will be until the Lord comes back.

THE DAILY BREAD

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.John 15:13 (KJV)

The most perfectly demonstrated love is the laying down of one’s life for another. The most excellent personification of such love was when the Lord Jesus lay down His life for a world that did not care. This was the truest act of love ever known. People often point to Jesus as showing love and then point to the Father as showing wrath but Jesus himself said if you see me you see the Father. (John 14:9)  He also said it was the Father in Him who did the works (John 14:10) He only did what He saw His Father do and only said what He heard His Father say.  Now putting all of these together we get a terrific picture of our Heavenly Father.  If we desire to know more about our Father God we should look at Jesus.

Years ago it was popular to say WWJD or what would Jesus do?  Yet the Word teaches us that everything Jesus did is what the Father wanted done and everything Jesus said is what the Father wanted said.  One thing to always remember is that the Bible is progressive revelation.  Starting with Genesis we get glimpses and these are added to and opened up to us as the Bible progresses through to the book of Revelation.

Even the Old Testament told us of God’s love and mercy.  He doesn’t just have love He IS love (1 John 4:8 & 1 John 4:16).  Perfect love. Jesus gave His life for us and it was the Father who gave His then only begotten Son for us. I say “then’ because now God has many sons (and daughters) and I am one of them. Not only are we who are born again sons of God we are also His friends (John 15:15).  Jesus has called me His friend and He lay down His life for me so I could become a child of God and a friend of God.  What an awesome thought that the Great God and King of the universe would choose to be friends with a nobody like me and not only that He would adopt me into His family and make me heir to the throne. This is not only available to me but to everyone who will make Jesus their personal Lord and Savior. Have you done it yet? If not, why in the world would you pass up on a deal like this?

THE FUNNY BONE

Two guys were in a bar, and they were both watching the television when the news came on.  It showed a guy on a bridge who was about to jump, obviously suicidal. “I’ll bet you $10 he’ll jump,” said the first guy. “Bet you $10 he won’t,” said the second guy. “Your on!”, he says.   Then, the guy on the television closed his eyes and threw himself off the bridge. The second guy hands the first guy the money. “I can’t take your money,” said the first guy. “I cheated you. The same story was on the five o’clock news.”  No, no. Take it,” said the second guy. “I saw the five o’clock news too. I just didn’t think the guy was dumb enough to jump TWICE!”

While sunning himself in the Bahamas, a wealthy English businessman received a telegram from his butler, which read simply: “Cat dead.” Distraught at the loss of his beloved pet, the businessman cut short his holiday and returned home.

After giving the cat a decent burial in the garden, he scolded his butler for the cold-hearted nature of the telegram.

“You should break bad news gently,” he said.

“If I had been telling you that your cat had died, I would have sent a telegram saying: “The cat’s on the roof and can’t get down.”

Then a few hours later I would have sent another telegram, saying: “The cat’s fallen off the roof and is badly hurt.”

Finally, a couple of hours after that, I would have sent a third telegram, saying: “The cat had sadly passed away.”

That way, you would have been gradually prepared for the bad news and would have been able to deal with it better.”

“I understand, sir,” said the butler. “I will bear that in mind in future.”

With that, the businessman booked another ticket to the Bahamas and resumed his holiday.

Two days later, he received another telegram from his butler. It read: “Your mother’s on the roof and can’t get down.”

THE DAILY BREAD

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

- Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

The word of God is more than just a book among millions of other books in the world. The Word has life within its pages. It is the only volume of revealed Truth on the earth. Many things are true but only the Word of God is Truth.  This truth is quick.  Quick is an old english word meaning alive.  It’s like when you are clipping your fingernails and you go a little too far and get into the “quick”.  You hit the part that’s alive.  Other books are the nails but the Bible is the quick because it is alive with power to produce life.  It will produce eternal life (John 3:16).  It will produce physical life (Proverbs 4:20). It will produce abundant life (John 10:10).  It will restore life to your family, your marriage, your finances, your intellect and to everything you put your hand to do (Genesis 39:3, Deuteronomy 29:9, 3 John 1:2).

The key is to “find the Word” (Proverbs 4:22).  In order to find it you must dig into it and then you must determine within yourself that it is God speaking directly to you through it.  The Word represents God to you.  You can’t separate God from His Word any more than you can separate you from your word.

Many people have trouble believing the Word of God because their own word is no good. You and your word are inseparable in that when you speak you bind yourself to your words. When God speaks he binds Himself to His Word.  Now the difference between He and you is that your word may not be reliable.  Is your word your bond?  When you tell someone you’ll be there at ten o’clock do you arrive at ten or whenever you take a notion?  When you say “I’ll pay you back when I get my next paycheck”, do you do it or on payday suddenly your cell phone is “accidentally” left on silent.  Now I understand that things sometimes happen to prevent us from keeping our word and I’m not talking about that.  I’m not talking about the times you wanted to keep your word but you were prevented from doing so by adverse circumstances.  I’m talking about lifestyle. I’m talking about integrity and out-right honesty.  Far too many Christians are dishonest. This needs to change and it can start today.

When we Christians say something we ought to keep our word. My son, Philip, trusts me.  Why? Because I always kept my word to him. If I ever promised him we would do something I would move heaven and earth to do it whether I wanted to or not, sick or well I kept my word.  I wanted him to trust me and I wanted him to trust God. If I wasn’t sure we could do a certain thing I told him up front that we would try but I couldn’t promise because I wasn’t sure. But, when I told him we would–we did. This developed within him a trust of me and lead him to trust God as well.  I taught him if God said it, He meant it and I taught him by example and precept as well as by my words.

We, in America, had two presidents with dubious nicknames. One was called “Tricky Dick” and the other was called “Slick Willie”. Now you don’t get nicknames like that by being honest and above-board. Both faced impeachment. The first one resigned and the second slicked his way out of it.  We Christians need to cut the Slick Willie and Tricky Dick junk out of our lives.  We need to develop good character because it counts with God. Learn to keep your own word.  When you tell someone something , do it and don’t say you will if you aren’t going to keep your word.  When you develop integrity within your own words you will have little to no trouble trusting the integrity of God’s Word..

THE FUNNY BONE

A widow visited a fortune-teller to contact her deceased husband.  When the ghostly apparition showed up she said;   “Dear John, are you happy now? Happier where you are now than you were on earth with me?”

“Yes,” John asserted, “I am far happier now than I was on earth with you.”

“Oh, do tell me, John,” the widow cried rapturously, “what is it like in heaven?”

“Heaven!” the ghost snapped. “I ain’t in heaven woman!”

As he held her fragile hand, he leaned over to kiss her dying cheek; his warm tears ran silently down his face, splashed onto her face, and roused her from her slumber. “Hush, my love,” he said. “Go back to sleep. Shhh. Don’t talk.”

But she was insistent. “Jim,” she said in her tired voice. “I have to talk. I have something I must confess to you.”

“There’s nothing to confess,” replied the weeping Jim. “It’s all right. Everything’s all right, go to sleep now.”

“No, no. I must die in peace, Jim. I slept with your brother, your best friend, your cousin, and your father.”

Jim mustered a pained smile and gently stroked her hand. “Hush now Becky, don’t torment yourself. I know all about it.” he said, “Why do you think I poisoned you?”

Money & Some Granola Anyone?

Good Morning to All!

TODAY

I want to give you a tip.  You know those little silicon/silicate packets that come in many products you buy (Camera’s, cell phones etc.)?  Save those, especially the large ones.  If your cell phone or I Pod ever get wet, drop it into a ziplock bag along with some silicon packets and let it sit a couple of days and this should dry it out and it should function again.  After all the purpose of those packets is to remove moisture.

It’s also a good idea to keep one in your camera bag all the time, it will prevent condensation within your camera from temperature changes.

FRIDAY NIGHT DISASTER (almost)

I had a near disaster happen Friday night.  While it may not seem too disastrous to others it would have been to me.  Beside my chair I have a table with a lamp; I sat my computer on the floor and leaned it uprightly against the leg of this table.  I then sat a full glass of soda on the table.  I made a wrong move and the entire glass of drink went right into my laptop.  I unplugged it and as gently as possible tried to shake out as much of the residual liquid as I could. This produced a puddle about the size of my fist (the rest had already came out).  My first reaction was to panic as my writings are stored in this laptop and I hadn’t backed them up.  Balmora, my novel, was my primary concern along with the three children’s stories I have written not to mention the other things I am working on.  I have put so much effort into these works and I didn’t want to lose any of them.

Of course my laptop was nonfunctioning. I resisted the temptation to panic.  I prayed and then put the wet computer into a garbage bag along with some silicate packets I had saved.  I tied up the bag and set it aside all weekend.  This morning I took it out and turned it on and voila, it started working again!  Thank YOU Lord!

Believe you me, I will be backing up my writings from here on out and I will NOT be placing my ‘puter in that spot again. ;-)

I’M SUCH A LUCKY GUY!

MONEY & GRANOLA ANYONE???

Over the weekend I got an email from the UN telling me they were giving me 2.5 million dollars.  I also got a Facebook message telling me I was going to get five million dollars.  My, how fortuitous for me! All I have to do is reply to their messages via Yahoo and give them all of my personal information and they will give me the big bucks!  Woo Hoo!  LOL  Of course I know these are scams.  These scammers always seem to use Yahoo and occasionally g-mail.

A couple of years ago I had a bout of temporary insanity and joined Christian Mingle. Man was that ever a mistake and if there was ever site full of scammers CM is it.  There are a few really good folks on there but most of the people that I came into contact with are what I call Granola Christians, you know, nuts, fruits and flakes besides all of the scammers that kept sending me messages.  Anyway, Yahoo was the scammers vehicle of choice there also.

If you singles have considered joining CM consider yourself warned.

I’LL COME BACK TO IT

I mentioned in my last post about Scriptures dealing with being too sensitive and said  I would probably post more about that subject in this post but I’ll come back to it in another one instead. :-)

THE DAILY BREAD

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!Psalms 133:1 (KJV)

Unity, the enemy fights it constantly. He seeks to divide and conquer. He will magnify differences between us in an attempt to get us to focus on those differences to the point of division.  He uses differences between male and female, management and labor, Democrat and Republican, black and white (or any race for that matter), husband and wife, and the list goes on and on.

If we would learn to recognize his tactics we could put a stop to much of the problems that arise between us.  But we are far too often willing participants in his schemes and openly yield to his plans.  We may not know we are yielding to the devil but we are just the same.  He will point out these differences and we agree with him and pull our skirts of superiority about ourselves and start focusing on those differences and soon they are growing larger and larger and they lead to arguments, fights and ultimately division and separation.

Unity on the other hand, will produce great gain and make the impossible possible. (Genesis 11:6) Satan knows this.  He knows that a house divided against itself will fall (Matthew 12:25).  There is very little in this life that is stronger than unity among people.  A united people is a strong people and not easily conquered.  A divided bunch will disintegrate into nothing and it doesn’t take long for it to do so.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

A girl brought home her fiance, a theology student, to meet her parents for the first time. Her father was keen to learn what prospects the boy had.

“How do you plan to make a living?” asked the father.

“I don’t know,” said the student, “but God will provide.”             The father raised his eyebrows.

“Do you own a car?”             “No,” said the student, “but God will provide.”

“I see. And where are you thinking of living once you’re married?”

“No idea, but I’m sure God will provide.”

Later the mother asked the father what he thought of their prospective son-in-law.

“Not sure, really,” sighed the father. “He’s got no money and seems to have given precious little thought to the future. But on the other hand, he thinks I’m God!”

On his first visit to a girl’s house, a guy waited in the living room while she prepared a snack in the kitchen.

Left alone, he noticed a small, attractive vase on the table near the recliner. He picked it up and was looking at it when the girl walked back in.

“What’s this?” he asked.

“Oh, my father’s ashes are in there,” she said.

“Oh! I’m so sorry…”

“Yeah, he’s too lazy to go and get himself an ashtray.”

I Was Just Thinking…

Good Morning to All!

TODAY

Is another Fabulous Friday.  People tend to be happier on Friday.  They have their paychecks, the work week is over (for most),and they have plans for the weekend.  Just a good day of the week. :-)

YESTERDAY

Was a good day and I am trusting today will be one also. :-)

THE DEBATE

I watched the VP debate last night and I thought it was terrible. Neither side won in my opinion but VP Biden was ridiculous.  Talk about rude, foolish, and childish! Totally unbecoming to the office that he holds. I think it’s time to let the children go outside and play and let the adults take over the Whitehouse. ;-)

I WAS JUST THINKING…

and remembering how the french philosopher Voltaire vowed that 100 years from his time the only Bibles found on the earth would be in a dusty museum somewhere.  LOL  This atheist tried to stamp out the Word of God.  Fool.  Today the Word is still the best seller.

Voltaire owned a printing press where he printed his anti-God “enlightened” writings.  After his death, his house and printing press was sold to a Bible Society and they began printing Bibles with his press and in his house.

Betcha he wishes he could get a do-over!

My oh my we’re so touchy!

I, at times, have a bit of a quirky sense of humor.  Many things that others find funny I often do not.  I detest slapstick comedy and very rarely like practical jokes. But I really enjoy comedy where things are misunderstood or misspoken like the Who’s on First skit or those church bloopers I posted about a month or so ago.  I also enjoy changing my accent and turning something someone else said into something they didn’t say.  I also like sarcasm.  Not to be mean-spirited, but comical.  I NEVER intentionally try to hurt or offend anyone and I do mean never.  Over the years my sense of humor has offended people at times.  For a while it seemed that nearly everything I said in person or wrote (on another website) offended somebody.

People in this country have gotten so touchy-feely that nearly anything said is offensive to someone or some group.   People today seemingly take everything the wrong way and are far too thin-skinned.  Lord willing I am going to take a Scriptural look at this on my next blog post.
So, y’all come back now, ya hear?

THE DAILY BREAD

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.Acts 17:11 (KJV)

What made them more noble?  They searched the Scriptures for themselves and not only that, they did so daily. too many rely solely on their favorite minister to lead and teach them properly instead of searching out the Word for themselves and making sure that what is preached or taught is Scriptural and accurate.  Don’t ever just take someone’s word for things.  Not even mine. Search the Scriptures for yourself.

Don’t go to the other extreme and develop a suspicious attitude where you are distrustful of everyone or everything that is different from what you thought it should be.  You may just be wrong yourself and that type of suspicious nature is harmful.  Instead receive the Word with “readiness of mind” and prayerfully search it out to make sure it is true.  No one knows it all.  Regardless of how much training we have we are all still learning.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

A businessman arrived home exhausted one evening and slumped on the sofa.

“You poor darling,” said his wife tenderly. “You must have had a terrible day.”

“You’re not kidding,” he replied. “The computer system crashed and we all had to think for ourselves.”

“Yes,” said the woman, “but I feel much more comfortable with you – I get nervous around smart people.”

“OK, son,” said the computer technician, “put your mommy on the phone.”

Good Afternoon

TODAY

Is the day of the VP debate.  I plan to watch it. The election is just around the corner. I believe I already know the outcome.  In fact, as I wrote on a previous blog post, I have known with 100% accuracy who would win for many many years.  I have not always voted for the winner.  A couple of times I had to hold my nose and vote. LOL   I told some of the folks four years ago what the outcome of this years’ election would be.  If I am wrong then I am wrong but it will be the first time since 1968.  But it’s possible, after all, I am a human being and subject to miss it from time to time.

Either way, right or wrong, good or bad, I believe God!

THE DAILY BREAD

For verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
(Matthew 17:20)

Faith,  many many people talk about faith.  People will ask, “What faith are you?’  They are referring to your particular religion but that is not what this verse is referring to.  The faith this verse is speaking of is Bible faith or the God-kind of faith.  This is the faith that is given to each person when they are first born again (Romans 12:3).  It is given by God to you in seed form.  We all get the same measure.  One person doesn’t get more than another person, we all get the same measure.  Why do some people seem to have more faith than others?  They have developed their faith where another person has not. They have put it to use and have exercised it. Most Christians that I know have spent the majority of their Christian lives depending on the faith of others.  The problem with this is you cannot always depend on others’ faith for several reasons but the main one being, it eventually will not work. You will stop being able to receive the answer from God that you need.  God expects you to develop your own faith.

Think of it this way, when a baby is born it must be fed and cared for entirely by others.  It cannot do things for itself, but as it feeds on the milk it is given it grows.  Then as it grows it is able to do more and more for itself and we expect it to do more and more for itself.  What would you think of a healthy twenty year old man who was still sucking on a bottle or expecting mama to change his diaper?

God expects you to feed on the milk of the word and grow (1 Peter 2:2) and then start doing more and more for yourself, spiritually speaking.  He expects you, after a while,  to begin using your own faith to receive your own answers. there is nothing wrong with getting others to assist you but not do it all for you.

People also get caught up on the size of the faith seed.  The verse referred to a mustard seed size, but Jesus wasn’t emphasizing the size but the fact that it is a SEED.  What do you do with seed? You plant them and they grow.  As long as it’s a seed it doesn’t produce but once it is planted and watered and tended it will grow and produce fruit. Sure, it’s easier to get others to do our praying and believing but God wants you to learn to pray and believe Him for yourself.

How do you know if you’re in faith? How can you tell? Listen to your words!  Jesus said in the above verse, “…if you have faith…you will say…”.  Faith speaks.  Faith speaks in agreement with the Word of God.  Faith speaks in spite of circumstances. Faith looks at the Word and not at the circumstances.  Faith says what the Word says about the situation not what the circumstances say. Faith speaks! If you are talking about how bad things are, how burdened you are, how difficult things are, how little money you have, or how sick you are, you are not in faith.  You may think you are but you are not.  Faith agrees with the Word of God not the word of the world or the word of the devil.  You have what you say and you say what you are believing for not what you already have (Mark 11:22-23).  If you are needing things to change, get your words in line with THE Word.  Remember, faith speaks.  Faith is a seed.  Plant it, water it, tend it and it will grow.

Help For The Fallen

An old priest was getting sick and tired of all the people in his parish who kept confessing adultery. One Sunday in the pulpit he said, “If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I’ll quit!”

Everyone liked him, so the parishioners came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say they had “fallen”. This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until the priest died at a ripe old age.

About two weeks later, the new priest visited the Mayor of the town and seemed very concerned. The priest said, “You have to do something about the sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep talking about having fallen.”

The Mayor started to laugh, realizing that no one had told the new priest about the code word.

The priest shook an accusing finger at the mayor and said, “I don’t know what you’re laughing about. Your wife has fallen three times this week!”

TODAY

Happy Columbus Day.  While Columbus has fallen out of favor with many in recent years, I still think his contributions to history are noteworthy and deserving of the holiday.

YESTERDAY

We had a good service.  I am in a series on prayer and it seems to be going well.  If there was ever a time where Christians need to be praying, the time we are living in is it.

WOW, I NEEDED THAT…

I  was getting a little too used to folks “liking” my posts.  I am new to this blogging experience and my blog is growing.  As it grows more people read it and more “like” it.  It’s wonderful when they do like what I write and let me know by rating it and/or clicking like at the bottom of the blog.  However, I don’t do it for the likes and pats on the back.  I write what I feel the Lord would have me to write and sometimes it is not popular.  My last post was evidently one of those.  I checked over it and found nothing I wished to change.  The truth is, people do sin (even Christians) and when we do we must go to God and confess that sin to Him in order to get ourselves cleansed of that sin by the blood of Jesus.  We don’t have to go to anyone else and confess it but we must go to God. The response  reminded me not to get caught up in the approval of others but to maintain my focus on pleasing the Lord for that is what is most important. ;-)

This week I Believe in Visions  by Kenneth E. Hagin

In this book Rev. Hagin tells of the visions and experiences he received and how God called him to take the message of faith to the church and minister healing to those in need. It is a fascinating book and well worth an open-minded reading.  Even if you don’t believe in such things it’s good to sometimes check out the opposing viewpoint.  I do it somewhat regularly.  I will read or listen to those with differing views.  It sharpens me up. :-)

THE DAILY BREAD

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
(2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV)

Nothing in this life is really permanent.  Never focus your attention on what you can see in this natural, physical world. Everything you see is temporary and subject to change.  The trials and tests of this life will not last forever.  They are temporary and will pass so, put your faith in the unseen  and the eternal.  The things which are eternal are not subject to change.

God’s Word is eternal and contains enough power within its pages to put you on top of every circumstance the devil or the world can throw your way.  There are 7,000 promises in God’s Word.  No matter what happens in this shifting, changing world you live in, those promises will be the same.  The same forever!

No matter how bad your body feels, the Word will always pull you through if you learn to apply it properly. No matter how bad your bank account looks, the Word will always produce the blessing of the Lord if you learn to apply it properly.  No matter how tough the family situation gets, the Word will always turn the circumstances around if you learn to apply it properly.

Don’t settle for the meager existence the world says you must have. Learn to lay hold of what the Word says you can have. Focus your attention on the eternal truths of God, take your stand on His Word, and don’t look at the things which are seen. Keep your eyes focused on God and on His Word, it doesn’t change but it will bring you change!  Remember the circumstances are temporary and they’re powerless to stand against the faith-filled Word of the Living God!

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

…And Then He Shouted, Sex!

A minister decided to do something a little different one Sunday morning. He said, “Today, in church, I’m going to say a single word and you are going to help me preach. Whatever word I say, I want you to sing whatever hymn comes to your mind.”

The pastor shouted out “Cross.” Immediately the congregation started singing in unison The Old Rugged Cross.

The pastor hollered out “Grace.” The congregation began to sing Amazing Grace.

The pastor said “Power.” The congregation sang There Is Power in the Blood.

Then the pastor shouted,  ‘Sex.’ The congregation fell in total silence. Everyone was in shock. They all nervously began to look around at each other, afraid to say anything.

Then all of a sudden, way in the back of the church, a little 87 year-old grandmother stood up and began to slowly sing, Precious Memories.

Hymns vs Choruses

An old farmer went to the city one weekend and attended the big city church. He came home and his wife asked him how it was.

“Well,” said the farmer, “it was good. They did something different, however. They sang praise choruses instead of hymns.”

“Praise choruses?” said his wife. “What are those?”

“Oh, they’re OK. They are sort of like hymns, only different,” said the farmer.

“Well, what’s the difference?” asked his wife.

The farmer said, “Well, it’s like this – If I were to say to you: “Martha, the cows are in the corn”‘ – well, that would be a hymn. If on the other hand, I were to say to you:

‘Martha, Martha, Martha, Oh Martha, MARTHA, MARTHA, the cows, the big cows, the brown cows, the black cows the white cows, the black and white cows, the COWS, COWS, COWS are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, the CORN, CORN, CORN.’ hallelujah, hallelujah, in the corn, in the corn, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord.  Then, if I were to repeat the whole thing a half-dozen times, well, that would be a praise chorus.”

The next weekend, his nephew, a young, new Christian from the city came to visit and attended the local church of the small town. He went home and his mother asked him how it was.

“Well,” said the young man, “it was good. They did something different however. They sang hymns instead of regular songs.”

“Hymns?” asked his mother. “What are those?”

“Oh, they’re OK. They are sort of like regular songs, only different,” said the young man.

“Well, what’s the difference?” asked his mother.

The young man said, “Well, it’s like this – If I were to say to you: ‘Martha, the cows are in the corn’ – well, that would be a regular song. If on the other hand, I were to say to you:   ‘Oh Martha, dear Martha, hear thou my cry with thine ear to the words of my mouth Turn thou thy whole wondrous ear to the righteous, glorious truth.      For the way of the animals who can explain There in their heads is no shadow of sense. While they in God’s sun or His rain they too are tempted unless from the corn they are fenced.  Yea those cows in glad bovine, rebellious delight have broken free their shackles, their warm pens they have eschewed, then goaded by the minions of darkness and night they all my mild sweet corn have chewed.

Then if I were to do only verses one, three and four and do a key change on the last verse, well that would be a hymn.

Those Little Baptist Kittens

There was a young boy admiring a new litter of kittens when his neighbor, a local pastor, came by for a visit.  “What kind of kittens do you have there young man?”  The pastor asked.

“They are Baptists.” the boy replied

The pastor beamed with pride as he himself was a Baptist.  A couple of weeks later the minister stopped by for a visit again and seeing the kittens and the boy playing with one of them he asked, “What kind of kittens do you have there again?’

The boy replied, “oh they’re Pentecostal kittens.”

“Pentecostal kittens! I thought you told me they were Baptist kittens!” The shocked pastor declared.

The boy calmly stated; “Well, they were but now they’ve got their eyes open.”

YESTERDAY

I had to help my friend Daniel get the water pump going again which took all morning and then in the afternoon I had to take Phil & Connie to the grocery store.  Then i had a couple of other things to do.  All of these prevented the posting of my daily blog posts.

This week  it is 2000 Years of Charismatic Christianity by Eddie L. Hyatt

This book shows the rich foundation of Pentecostal history beginning with Acts 2:4 and chronicling the overwhelming evidence of the Pentecostal/Charismatic moves of God through the  centuries.  This move of God, and the gifts of the Spirit, didn’t start on the day of Pentecost and then go away until 1906  but was kept alive in people, groups and revivals throughout the history of the church.

I learned a great deal from this book.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

THE DAILY BREAD

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.                          (1 John 1:9 KJV)

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2 KJV)

You’ve been set free from the law of sin and death. It is wonderful to know you never again have to submit to the slavery of sin. But what do you do when you still miss the mark? What do you do when you stumble and fall into the same sin you’ve been trying to conquer?  Run to the Father and repent!  I know that sounds too simple but most people often do just the opposite. Instead of running to God, they let guilt drive them further and further from Him. They start thinking things like, “Well, I’ve missed it now. I might as well forget the rest of it and live like the devil ’cause I’ll never make it anyway.”  Don’t make that mistake. Don’t let Satan talk you into sinning in one area of your life just because you missed it in another. When you get off track with God, just confess it and get right back on.

“But, I feel so guilty when I tell God what I’ve done that it’s hard for me to make myself do it.”  I know. I used to feel that way too but it is a fact that  when you confessed that sin wasn’t when God found out about it. He knew about it all the time. When you confessed it is when you got rid of it.

When you make a mistake, when you miss the mark, when you have sinned, remember, you have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous (1 John 2:1). Run to Him. He knows what you are going through.  He didn’t rip you to pieces for the sins you committed before you made Him Lord of your life, did He? Then how much more merciful and loving do you think He will be toward you now that you are one of His own? Now that you’re reaching toward Him and you now have a heart toward Him you will find His mercy and grace even more abounding toward you!

The bottom line is; don’t run from God, run to Him. Receive His forgiveness. Receive His cleansing. Receive His love.  No matter how badly you’ve sinned, He’s eager to forgive and to cleanse you of all unrighteousness.  man may not but God will!

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

A little girl made a cup of tea for her mother.

“I didn’t know you could make tea,” said mom taking a sip.

“Yes, I boiled some water, added the tea leaves like you do, and then strained it into a cup. But I couldn’t find the strainer, so I used the fly swatter.”

“What!” exclaimed mom, choking on her tea.

“Oh, don’t worry Mom,. I didn’t use the new fly swatter. I used the old one.”

Little Johnny was called over by the lifeguard at the swimming pool.

“You’re not allowed to pee in the pool,” said the lifeguard. “You’re going to have to leave.”

“But everyone pees in the pool,” protested Johnny.

“Maybe,” said the lifeguard. “But not from the diving board.”

Two young boys were staying the night at their grandparents’ house.

At bedtime they knelt beside their beds to say their prayers.

The younger brother said in a really loud voice: “I pray for a new bike, a  TV and a Playstation!”

The other brother said: “Why are you praying so loud?  God isn’t deaf.

“No, but grandma is!”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I could never draw the line between meanness and dishonesty. What is mean, so far as I can see, slides by indistinguishable gradations into what is dishonest.

George Macdonald

THE DAILY BREAD

Forget about what others think!

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
(Hebrews 13:15)

Wonderful things begin to happen when you continually offer praise to God. Faith rises up on the inside of you. The reality that God loves you begins to sing through your spirit.  What’s more, it brings honor to your Father when you believe His Word and magnify Him, His love, and mercy through praise. You honor Him when you speak of His goodness and loving-kindness, when you talk about Him as your Father of love Who does only good. It blesses Him when you praise Him as the great God of the universe who is eager to bless you and Who even gave His own Son because He so loved you.  I am convinced if only one person would have accepted the Lordship of Jesus, God would have still given His Son and Jesus would have still given Himself.  They are motivated by love because God is love (1 John 4:8 & 16).  Therefore they deserve our praise whether we feel like praising them or not.  When we offer praise to God when we do not ‘feel’ like it–it is a sacrifice.  The sacrifice of praise.

David was a man after God’s own heart. He knew how to praise his God. Until you have the Word dwelling in you richly so that you can speak psalms and praises out of your own spirit, use the praises of David to magnify God. Speak them or sing them out loud to the Father. Put His words continually on your lips. You will soon begin to experience the thrill and the joy of realizing that God is indeed “rich in mercy” because of His great love with which He loved us. Your faith will rise to new heights and your Father will be blessed! And you will be blessed.  Lift your hands and praise Him. (1 Timothy 2:8, Psalm 28:2, Psalm 63:4, Psalm 119:48, Psalm 134:2)

If you are facing problems, praise Him.  If you are facing sickness, praise Him.  If your back is against the wall, praise Him. He will move on your behalf.  Learn to praise Him.  Learn to be more open with your praise of God.  Forget about what others may think!  Who cares what they think. Instead, care what God thinks! Learn to lift those hands and praise Him.  He deserves it and it will change your life.

The Good Cat

A cat died and went to heaven. God said: “You’ve been a good cat all your life – a devoted pet. Is there anything you wish?”

The cat replied: “I lived on a farm and always had to sleep on a hard floor so a soft pillow would be great. Then I could sleep peacefully in heaven.”             God provided a soft pillow for the cat.

The following day six mice died and went to heaven. God told them: “You have been good mice all your lives. Is there anything you wish?”             “Yes,” they said. “We always had to run everywhere, being chased by cats or people. We’d love roller skates for each of us so that we can get around heaven without having to use our little legs as much.”             So God provided each mouse with a pair of roller skates.

A week later, God  he checked up on the cat who was fast asleep on his new pillow.             “Is everything OK?” asked God.

The cat stretched, yawned and said; “Perfect, I’ve never been happier. The pillow is so comfortable and those meals on wheels you’ve been sending over are simply the best!”
